Silvia
Silvia had been working as an online shopper at Wal-Mart for over 4 years when she learned about the apprenticeship program from a former instructor at John A. Logan College. At the time, Silvia was pregnant with her third child and waited until her daughter was born to enroll in the NIMAA (National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement) program. As a participant in the program, Silvia was able to get hands-on practice working alongside experienced medical professionals at Shawnee Health OB-GYN in Marion, Illinois.
While Silvia was enrolled in the apprenticeship program, Man-Tra-Con was able to pay for her scrubs and a portion of her salary at Shawnee Health through our On-the-Job Training program.
In March 2026, after successfully completing the 19-month Apprenticeship program at Shawnee Health, Silvia received a Certificate of Completion from the Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship.
Silvia is now working full-time at Shawnee Health OB-GYN as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. To anyone thinking of enrolling in the program, Silvia says, “Go for it!”
“It’s a great program! It’s a great place to start if you want to get into the medical field. I have learned so much here, and I feel like I have a career now. And later on, if I want to go further in my career, I feel like I have some experience,” Silvia says.
