Jeremy
Career Specialist Michelle Sanchez reports on her customer. “I began working with Jeremy in February 2018. He had been “laid off” from his job as a laborer due to lack of work. Jeremy had been working for Wagner Masonry, Inc., earning $26.80 per hour when he was let go in November 2017. He was determined eligible for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) services as a dislocated worker unlikely to return. Although Jeremy had a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, his degree was over 10 years old. However, he had never been able to obtain full-time employment utilizing this degree,” Michelle explains.
“Jeremy had several connections with state employees who all advised him to obtain his CDL credential. Jeremy believed that by obtaining his CDL, he would qualify for some outdoor state jobs, which is what he wanted to do. In March 2018, he enrolled in the Truck Driver Training program at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois, and successfully completed the program one month later in April,” Michelle adds.
“Today, Jeremy is grateful to be gaining experience as he works for the Department of Agriculture as a laborer earning $27.00 per hour. He uses his license to transport supplies and is earning over 100% of his dislocation wage, working full-time hours,” Michelle says.
