Career Specialist Robin Pritchett reports on her customer. “Spencer was a high school dropout who had never been employed. He was living in a household that received SNAP benefits, and was basic skills deficient when he came to Man-Tra-Con for training assistance in May 2025,” Robin explains.
“Spencer needed assistance with getting his GED. He was determined to earn his GED so that he could find gainful employment. He attended GED classes in Murphysboro through the John A. Logan College GED program, and was very good at keeping in touch with me regarding his progress,” Robin adds.
“Through WIOA funding, we were able to offer Spencer financial assistance for transportation and other incentives while he was in school earning his GED,” Robin says.
“After passing his exams and earning his GED, Spencer found full-time employment at Baseden Concrete & Excavating in De Soto, Illinois. He began working for them in July 2025, as Concrete Finisher, earning $29.00 per hour,” Robin says.
