Man-Tra-Con has worked with Adams Shoes for over 30 years to purchase “steel-toed” factory and construction work boots for our On-the-Job Training, Work Experience, and Apprenticeship Program participants. Through special grants and federally-funded programs, Man-Tra-Con has been able to purchase any tools, supplies, and uniforms that are needed for participants to use during their training. After the training period ends, participants are able to keep the required items for future employment opportunities.

Adams Shoes has been a family-owned business since 1926, when two brothers opened the store in downtown Marion, Illinois, during the Great Depression. Today, Adams Shoes is still doing business in downtown Marion. Their current location is just off the square at 410 North Market Street. They are proud to offer a variety of high-quality footwear that not only gets customers safely through a tough working environment, but also supports their long-term foot health.

Third Generation Small Business Owner Theresa Boyt loves working in the family business. “Even as a kid, I always wanted to be at the shoe store. It’s always been me and my dad, and anyone else we add to the staff becomes a member of the Adams Shoes family,” Theresa says.

Over the years, Adams Shoes has provided high-quality footwear and excellent customer service to miners, construction workers, farmers, and heavy-duty equipment operators. They not only measure a customer’s foot, but also ask about the walking surface the customer will be working on to provide the best fit, support, and product needed for the work environment.

Man-Tra-Con is happy to have Adam Shoes provide durable footwear for our customers’ training needs, and to also be able to support local business. It’s been a “win-win” partnership for both!
